UMi releases 5 new ROMs for its devices

One of the biggest problems presented by Chinese smartphones, is that they have little development, which means that, in most cases, there are no available ROMs. Nevertheless, UMi, in their quest to be one of the leading brands on today’s market, has decided that the price does not need to be at odds with the customizability. For this reason, UMi is developing some of the most successful Android ROMs for its devices. In addition, in order to simplify this process, the company has designed RootJoy, a PC software that allows both install new ROMs and manage applications or perform backups, all in a simple an intuitive way.

YiOS for UMi Fair and UMi Hammer S
YiOS is a custom ROM based CyanogenMod 12.1, which is now available for both UMi Fair and UMi Hammer S. This ROM includes numerous customization options, both in terms of aesthetics and performance, allowing us to get the most of our device.

Vibe OS 2.9 for UMi Iron
Vibe OS is an Android variation used by Lenovo devices, which is noted for being very attractive visually. Vibe OS is based on Android 5.1, and it is now available for UMi Iron. Sometimes we see that the most beautiful Android ROMs have little functionality, however, Vibe OS combines aesthetics and functionality, making it an option to consider in our UMi Iron.

Lewa OS for UMi Hammer
Despite not being one of the newest devices of the Brand, Umi does not forget the Umi Hammer. Proof of this is the launch of Lewa OS, one of the most popular Android ROMs for this device. This ROM includes a host of themes, which will delight the most demanding users.

Color OS for UMi eMax
Another relatively old device that has received new ROMs is the UMi eMax, one of the most famous UMi devices. In this occasion, the brand has launched Color OS based on Android 4.4. This ROM is also very popular in the Android universe, being present in both Oppo devices and the Chinese versions of the OnePlus One. Color OS combines aesthetic and performance, thus providing a good user experience.

As we can see, thanks to UMi, price and development are no longer in contradiction, so all UMi  devices have several ROMs available in RootJoy.

UMi Iron Pro vs Meizu Metal: Specs and comparison

A few days ago, UMi started to sell its new device, the UMi Iron Pro, a device which uses metal body design, with 5.5 inch 1080p screen, MTK 6753 Octa-core processor, 3 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM. On the other hand, Meizu has also released a new device, the Meizu Metal, which has a metal chassis, with 5.5 inch 1080p screen, MTK6795M Octa-core processor, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM. As you can see, both devices are quite similar, but they have some differences which are worth to know.

Design
Both UMi Iron Pro and Meizu Metal use metal body design. While Meizu Metal opts for a straight design, UMi has opted for a rounded design, which best fits the hand shape. Regarding dimensions, the UMi Iron pro has a thickness of 7.9 mm and weighs 148g, while Meizu Metal has a thickness of 8.2 and weighs 163g. In addition, UMi Iron Pro incorporates a skyline notification LED, so users will never miss a notification again.

Display
Both smartphones have a 5.5 inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels. Generally, mid-range devices use to have HD and not Full HD displays. Nevertheless, Meizu Metal uses LCD technology, while UMi Iron Pro opts for an AMOLED screen. This technology provides better color perception and also helps to reduce power consumption when using dark themes.

Performance
One of the most important things to consider when buying a new smartphone is performance. In this aspect, we can find some differences, because, while UMi Iron Pro includes a 1.3 GHz Octa-core processor, Meizu Metal opts for a 2.0 GHz processor Octa-core processor. However, UMi Iron Pro has 3 GB RAM, while Meizu Metal has only 2 GB. This means that Meizu Metal supports a lower quantity of running applications.

Security
Like most of current mid-range and high-end devices, the Meizu Metal incorporates a fingerprint reader, which allows users to authenticate into the device on a secure way. However, the UMi Iron Pro not only incorporates fingerprint ID, but implements two additional modes of security: eyeprint authentication and voice unlock.

Camera
Both devices incorporate similar cameras, with a 13-megapixel sensor. Here the difference appears if we look to the front camera, because, while Meizu Metal uses a 5-megapixel sensor, UMi Iron Pro has an 8-megapixel sensor, equipped with a flash LED which will allow us to take amazing selfies.

System
The system is one of the main differences between this two phones, because while UMi Iron has a light interface with barely changes, Meizu Metal has its own firmware, called Flyme OS, which is very different from the traditional Android system. In addition, UMi Iron Pro incorporates some interesting additional features such as an intelligent power saving mode, or a health monitoring app, which allows users to have a better experience with their phone.

Connectivity
Like the majority of current smartphones, both Iron Pro and Meizu Metal support 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks, but, the difference here is that, while Meizu Metal supports FDD-LTE and TD-LTE networks, UMi Iron Pro only supports FDD-LTE. Nevertheless, UMi Iron Pro incorporates the new USB Type-C connection, which will allow users to faster transfer information from computer to smartphone and vice versa. On the contrary, Meizu Metal includes a traditional micro USB port.

Price and conclusions
As we have seen in this article, both UMi Iron Pro and Meizu Metal are similar devices; however, UMi Iron Pro incorporates a few details such as three kinds of biometric security, USB Type-C, or a larger RAM memory. Nevertheless, we need to look at the price in order to fairly compare these two devices. Nowadays, Meizu Metal costs $229.99, while UMi Iron Pro costs $179.99, this is, $50 less.

News Leak: Umi Iron Production Update

Due to software stability issues, we will not be able to deliver the UMI Iron to you as planned. We sincerely apologize for this.

The delay is due to the root access turning out to be much more difficult than we expected. Our engineers have managed to get gain root access but in order to get users to enjoy all the RootJoy services our team needs about two more weeks of testing stability.
For us its very important to deliver the IRON to our fans with a perfectly optimized Android 5.1 experience with everything the IRON has to offer.

The very up-coming device HAMMER S is going to be released at the end of August. HAMMER S is an upgrade version of UMI’s previously hot sale model HAMMER, however the price won’t increase and remain the same price 129.99USD.

UMI Lollipop for (almost) all the new devices in the roadmap of the company

Through a post on the official page of Facebook, the Chinese manufacturer UMI released officially in a "homemade", the road-map update to Android Lollipop for its device currently on sale.

As written by the company on a sheet of paper photographed and posted on his page Facebook official, in the next few months almost the entire line-up of devices currently on the market will be updated to the latest distribution of Android  available.

The leaked roadmap is as follows:
- UMI Zero will probably not receive Android Lollipop for problems attributed to Taiwanese chipmaker Mediatek.
- UMI Hammer has already been upgraded toAndroid 5.1 Lollipop through flash tool official RootJoy;
- UMI Emax will be updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop during the month of August;
- the UMI Iron is already being marketed with Android 5.1 Lollipop.

UMI will launch further in the coming months a new terminal, called UMI Hammer S, with the operating system  Android 5.1 Lollipop preinstalled and support USB Type-C .

UMi to release details of their UMi Iron very soon

UMi have just released their big battery UMi eMax today at $159.99, but it looks like it won’t be the only one this month as details of the UMi Iron are slowly being seeded. 

So far we don’t have any details of the UMi Iron other than confirming its name and the above photo. From the photo we can see that the device appears to be a unibody alloy phone, and we can just make out the use of a dual LED flash. 

From their recent launch of the eMax we have seen UMi go up to 5.5-inch displays and larger battery specifications, a trend we feel they will continue with their new device. With the weekend here, we will try to get more details of the UMi Iron early next week.
